May 2011 Update:

We have achieved our primary goal of replacing equipment, but there is more to do in 2011.  See the Action Items page for details.

In case you're wondering why we continue to do fund raisers now that the equipment is here, this is why:                        1) The Park District got a discount on the equipment by ordering all of it at once, and we still owed them a few thousand dollars for the initial purchase.                                                          2) We have future phases of improvements we hope to make - turf renovation and court/field improvements, to be precise.

PHOTOS OF THE NEW SCHULTZ PARK:

Welcome, Neighbor!

As many of you are well aware, the Lan-Oak Park District removed some play equipment from Schultz Park in the summer of 2009, due to safety issues, and they did not have the funds to replace them.

A number of Schultz Park area residents formed a grass-roots committee to "Save Our Park," and you are still welcome to join our efforts!  Subcommittees include Finance, Equipment Planning, Distribution/Publicity.

At our meeting with Park District personnel on August 10, 2009, it was decided that we go ahead with plans to replace the items that were removed -- swings, slide, teeter-totter -- which has now been replaced with two all new play structures!   And the Lan-Oak Park District has matched our funds raised dollar-for-dollar!  We've definitely accomplished much!

Long-range goals include seeking grants and other public funds for future phases of Schultz Park improvements.  For instance, the ball field, tennis court, volleyball and horseshoe areas could all benefit from renovation, and possibilities exist for fitness areas, walkways and the like.

Check this web site (SchultzPark.net16.net) to get the latest information.  You can also contact us at SchultzPark@gmail.com to volunteer or call Carol Ann at 708-767-9894 if you have questions.  Together we can build community and accomplish our goals!  Thank you!
