March News Flash:

The Park District Board has approved the purchase of the swings, main playground and toddler area!  Since this includes more than our original Phase 1, the amount is large enough that it needs to go out for bid.  We anticipate the arrival of the equipment in early to mid June.  If you see activities at the park (removal of old equipment, etc.), that means that the bids are out and things are rolling.  Thank you so much for helping to make this major project a reality!

Plan to swing in the spring!

Welcome, Neighbor!

As many of you are well aware, the Lan-Oak Park District removed some play equipment from Schultz Park this summer, due to safety issues, and they do not currently have the funds to replace them.

A number of Schultz Park area residents formed a grass-roots committee to "Save Our Park," and we'd really appreciate if you would join our efforts!  Subcommittees include Finance, Equipment Planning, Distribution/Publicity.

At our meeting with Park District personnel on August 10, 2009, it was decided that we go ahead with plans to replace the items that were removed -- swings, slide, teeter-totter -- which can hopefully be replaced for under $10,000 (hopefully by spring, 2010).   And the Lan-Oak Park District has agreed to match our funds raised dollar-for-dollar!  We're definitely moving forward!

Long-range goals include seeking grants and other public funds for future phases of Schultz Park improvements.  For instance, if the current playground equipment cannot be retrofitted to meet current federal/state safety standards, it may need to be replaced in the forseeable future as well.

Check this web site (SchultzPark.net16.net) often to get the latest information.  You can also contact us at SchultzPark@gmail.com to volunteer or call Carol Ann at 708-767-9894 if you have questions.  Together we can build community and accomplish our goals!  Thank you!
